A big thank you goes out to Chris for writing in on my last post, Skydiving Event photography, and asking about skydiving cameramen equipment. I always think about doing this, listing equipment, so here you go. This is a great camp to go check out what the common, regular cameraman is shooting for big-way photography.
This is the line-up of cameramen for the camp. This will change as we move into the 100-ways this week. And, there are many Big-Way Cameramen out there, way too many to list. But, this is a real sample from a real event for the PRO Skydiving Photographer.
Most changes on equipment set-up will be quality of equipment, and amount of equipment carried.
Below you will find an image of the cameramen themselves and the equipment they use. The only thing I missed, the suits. Everyone wears a winged camera suit. It’s standard. One need’s this for the wide amount of range needed to ascent, descent and unhindered flight through large multi-person burbles.
I personally use a custom Kurupee suit. Get in touch if you would like one.
Montana realized the need for a steady platform helmet. You will rarely, if at all, see a big-way cameraman without a solid platform for shooting. Montana is well on his way to upgrading his gear for this specific purpose and style of shooting.
My questions to you are:
- What are the similarities and differences?
- How does your equipment stack up?
- What changes would you make based on what you are learning?
Check out the photo below of the cameraman and their gear. Make sure to leave a comment!
Thanks for tuning in!
